Carbon Tax legislation, implications & mitigation opportunities19 May 2016
The Durban Chemicals Cluster hosted an Operational Excellence TSC Session on 12 May 2016 for member firms focusing on Carbon Tax as well as the Energy Strategy. There is considerable ambiguity and debate about the implications of carbon tax – due for implementation from 01 January 2017. Urban Earth provided an update on the carbon tax legislation, its implications and mitigation options for members.
Following this, Dr Susanna Godehart of The Durban Energy Office, responsible for climate change mitigation in the city including renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction, shared with members the solar map and photovoltaic (PV) panel feasibility tool which she developed and also gave an update along with the municipalities overarching energy strategy.
The session was hosted at NCP Alcohols and attendees were taken on a tour of their plant and also informed of their energy saving efforts which has yielded positive results for the company over the years.
