B-BBEE Compliance Update23 October 2019
Broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) is a policy introduced by the South African government to support transformation. B-BBEE compliance and score level, with its competitive conditions and increasingly stringent requirements, is becoming increasingly important in the chemicals industry.
Almost a year after proposed changes to some aspects of the B-BBEE codes, the final changes were published in May 2019. These changes must be implemented within 6 months, meaning the end of November 2019. The aspects affected by the changes include sub-minimums, EMEs and QSEs, skills development and enterprise and supplier development.
Rachel Manzi, an experienced HR and B-BBEE practitioner, unpacked changes and explained the new requirements. This was followed by a peer learning and workshop session to share valuable industry insights and learnings.
